The president of WordPerfect came to Sacramento last week to demonstrate 5.1. Main improvements over 5.0 are: 1) Tables are far easier to set up. 2) Merge is easier. 3) Equations can be easily done. They seem to be reminiscent of the way troff does them, in that you type in the equation as if you had read it out loud, but in WP 5.1 you can immediately preview. 4) Will generate graphical characters for those your printer doesn't support directly. 5) Tabs can be relative to the margins. Also when you change the tab settings your text will change in real time, thus making it easier to adjust. 6) Pull-down menus and mouse support. 7) Context-sensitive help (hurray!) 8) Dictionary hyphenation. But it's not meant to be a typesetting package. Still, I can't wait to use it here. We use Sun Sparc machines; still only 4.2 available, beta 5.0 in January or February, 5.1 ?? BTW, a DrawPerfect package was also demonstrated. Seemed nice, integrated with WordPerfect.-- Ralph Finch ...ucbvax!ucdavis!caldwr!rfinch
