Besides looking ugly, this can introduce some inaccuracies as the
nroff driver used doesn't cope with superscripts.

When I mentioned the problem to them, they indicated no plans to
correct the situation.

As always, "complain to your vendor".  Don't hold your breath waiting
for results.
