It should be out for public review near the end of the year - with all hopes of being on the R4 tape. There were three vendors demoing PEX at SIGGRAPH89: DEC, HP & Sun. DEC was demoing a slightly modified Version 3+ protocol and HP & Sun were demoing servers based on the 3.2 protocol. DEC is selling thier version of PEX. Platforms? high buck 3D boxes. The MIT X consortium gathered a group of sponsors to fund a sample implementation which should enter alpha test next spring with the hope of releasing the code to MIT in a little over a year. Sometime in 1991 most 3D vendors should have product quality PEX servers based on the same version of the protocol and that actually talk to each other. Before then many things will be called PEX servers. -Jan Hardenbergh - jch@apollo.com - (508)-256-6600 Hewlett Packard / Graphics Technology Division @ Apollo
