I picked up one of these things at a show for about $15 and believe it or
not they do work. They don't completely eliminate the flicker but they can
reduce it substantially. Careful color selection also helps. I regulary
use my terminal programs, word processor and directory utility programs
in interlacemode with no flicker.

I would recommend it.
