Keywords: Z-158 Zenith Firmware Controller Message-ID: <194@cica.cica.indiana.edu> Date: 2 Nov 89 20:53:48 GMT Organization: Center for Innov. Comp. Appl., Bloomington, IN Lines: 34 ][ I have a question regarding an old full-length Western Digital controller (WD1002S-WX2 Revision "C" circa 1984) and a brand new Seagate ST-225. Apparently the two don't like each other. It screws up one of our Zenith 158s so badly that it won't even boot off the floppy. A "1701" error message appears on boot (general hard disk error) and the A: drive light just flashes on and off continuously. I can't even boot the machine to access debug to do a low level (via "g=c800:5")! (Of course, the machine will boot when I disconnect the power going to the fdisk.) It was my impression that these two got along with one another. The disk that I'm replacing is an old half-height 5.25" 20 Mb labelled "CSA Model CM 3426". (I didn't know the Cub Scouts made disks...:) What do I need to do to get these two running? I've got a half-length WD1002A-WX1 controller with Zenith firmware (ROM #444-607), but I don't want to use Zenith's DOS (and CONFIGUR program) to set it up. I've got MS-DOS 4.01 all ready to go... Anyone know how to use debug to access the firmware on this card? Thanks for your help! -- michael regoli mr@cica.indiana.edu regoli@iubacs.bitnet ...rutgers!iuvax!cica!mr
