I made a call to SuperMac product support. In the aftermath of the Quake, I spent less than 60 seconds on the phone going through two connections to get direct to technical support. After explaining my problem, and running a program I wrote to identify the ROMs on the drive, the support person informed me that I needed an upgrade of the ROMs. Three days later, a new ROM chip arrived. I installed it. Things worked great! SuperMac, you have one of the best support organizations I've seen. Thanks.
