It will also be shown at the DEXPO conference in Anahiem next. For those who do not want both the Tek and X Windows model of graphics, this offers a more aggressively priced alternative! THE XN10 A COLOR X-ONLY X STATION STATION October 30, 1989 The Visual Systems Group of Tektronix, Inc., Wilsonville, Oregon, introduces a new price/performance entry point to the color world of the X Window System. The XN10 answers the needs of the large number of users who want low-cost color X Stations on their desktop but do not require Tek graphics functionality. The XN10's standard configuration includes: o A 15" color display (19" option available) o Eight bit-planes of graphics memory (256 simultaneously displayed colors from a palette of 16.7 million) o Two megabytes of local memory (1.5 megabytes for user data) o Ethernet LAN networking o Based on the Intel 386SX (16 MHz) with a TI 34010 (50 MHz) graphics co-processor for optimum X Window performance. Like the XN11, the XN10 runs the X11 Release 3 Server Window System, providing a bit-mapped graphics interface for network computing environments. With resident X Server software, the XN10 can initiate X client applications on any host running X. Users can access hosts that do not support X through a Telnet window. The XN10 is essentially an X-only version of the XN11 -- that is, no Tek graphics. With the introduction of the XN10, Tektronix now offers the broadest line of X stations, providing a range of solutions to meet customers' varied needs. It is important to be sure that any customer who has potential requirements for Tek 4211-style graphics or 3270 coax communications purchase an XN11 rather than an XN10, since there is no way to upgrade an XN10 to include Tek graphics or coax. Defining an X Station The qualities that make up an X station are: o A workstation-like interface (multiple windows and a high- ____________________________ resolution bit-mapped display) o Network connection to a wide variety of hosts (Tektronix and _____________________________________________ other workstations, minicomputers, and supercomputers) o X Window System capabilities (X Server at a low cost) ____________________________ 1 o Terminal-like package (small footprint, easy start-up and _____________________ shut-down, minimal system administration) o Dedicated display (no local processing) __________________ o Low cost-per-seat (customer pays only for functionality __________________ needed) Features and Pricing You can place orders starting on October 30, 1989.
