I think the 80-col firmware in unenhanced IIes has a bug that lets Kermit lose characters. It's NOT Kermit v3.85 itself: It doesn't have this problem on my GS (fixed the bug.) You may want to repost this in comp.sys.apple, as this is a strictly binaries feed. There are a lot of people (Dave Lyons and Matt Deatherage c/o Apple Inc., along with a lot of other, very knowledgable people) who could answer your questions with a lot more authority than I did/could..
