I recently tried the Cardinal 2400 bps external modem. It's available for around $140 with MNP and $100 without. It's Hayes compatible enough to operate as an answering modem with the default modem settings in RBBS-PC, which is usually pretty particular about compatibility. I didn't try the MNP.
