On an error or break, one can examine the stack in a backtrace window. It's also important to be able to restart the computation from any point in the stack. 2. MACL is slow and I don't understand why. The CLs on the Sun 3s also run on 68020s and they compile through C rather than directly to native code. Yet they are about 4X MACL.
