Subject: Color separations

I have a set of color postscript drawings that need to be converted
into color separations for a book.  Is this an easy process?  Are
there programs which can do this for me, or would the local
techno-sophisticated print shop be able to handle it by themselves?
Any advice on how to accomplish this task would be appreciated.
