There are 100's of thousands of 6 and 7 mhz chips available right now; they are totally good enough to incorporate into a new, upgraded Apple II product. It's the old "chicken and egg" story. In order to develop the 10 mhz chips in sufficient quantities, at a reasonable price, you need to have a customer, or a large order. The reason there are insufficient quantities of 10 mhz chips is that there hasn't been enough interest in producing them. It turns out that 10 mhz is about the top speed for a IIGS with an 8-bit data bus, anyway. Anything faster than that actually slows the machine down. Six or 7 mhz would be totally sufficient. I'd like to see this speed as standard on the IIGS. Lynda UUCP: {ames!elroy, }!gryphon!pnet02!lbotez INET: lbotez@pnet02.gryphon.com
