I agree that six mhz would be an ideal speed for the IIGS, but it needs two things more: faster I/O, and faster video, both of which are stuck at the old 1 MHz of the ][+. Personally, I sold my last ][+ several years ago and I'm kind of tired of being hobbled today by its limitations. I don't really know that much about hardware design myself .. I'm just a mouthpiece for people who do know. But they all say that a IIGS operating around 6 MHz -- with 6 MHz video and faster I/O -- would be an ideal machine. In fact, the rumor mill has it that AIIDTS is holding discussions on this very undertaking.
