Your instructions were very clear and the patch, including the revision date, worked fine - first time. Noticed some confusion in other messages regarding printer support in Kermit 232/A. There is no problem with controlling an attached printer using the key and local commands. There is a problem with the remote computer (what you use your Rainbow to connect to, in my case, a VAX cluster) controlling your printer from the other end of the communications link. That problem is what Gary Stebbins is/has corrected with his Nov. 11 version of MSVRB1C. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/1 ------------------------------ Date: 11-15-89 (11:26) To: CARL HOUSEMAN Subject: RE: PC KERMIT 2.32/B From: FRANK MALLORY > I got the ` key to send \27 (esc) with Rainbow MS-Kermit > 2.32/A by entering: > Kermit-MS> SET KEY \96 \27 > Tried it, but it doesn't seem to work by itself. I assume the people who needed that solution know what the problem is. Let me ask you another question, somewhat related. How does one print out on the Rainbow's LA50, a ReGIS image that is generated on an attached VAX? I brought up Rainbow ReGIS, then used Kermit 2.32/A to connect to my VAX, invoked a Datatrieve procedure that displayed a ReGIS image (which appeared fine on my Rainbow's screen), then tried to print it out on my LA50 by punchin F2. Nothing happened, even tho as you pointed out, I have no problem printing ordinary text screens using the same procedure when not in graphics mode. --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (1:109/123) ------------------------------ Date: 11-14-89 (12:02) To: DAVID STRICKLER Subject: CAD From: AMER NELSON I think the message I got may have read -- Insufficient memory to run ZALLOC Not that the exact wording matters that much -- you get the drift. That was back in August and I'm still >waiting for the cheque. Hey, maybe it's the US mail??? Actually, it is really a shame. I found that the DEC people were the most fanstastic group of customers which any business could have asked for. I had about 5,000 customers in my career as a Dec consultant, reseller of Rainbow/Vax hardware, software. I never asked for COD and always trusted the DEC people to send checks. Of those 5000 customers, 4998 NEVER failed to be honorable. An incredible group of very fine people, many of whom still call for advice and to say hello. Geoff Reed and one Arvid Ek were they only ones who ever cheated me. Those 2 were the only ones who failed to pay me. Both, without honor. ...mark --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Island Logistics (617) 631-3304 (1:101/111) ------------------------------ Date: 11-14-89 (10:16) To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: RE: RAINBOW GRAPHICS BOAR From: MARK BORNSTEIN In a message of <12 Nov 89 17:39:00>, GEORGE THEALL (1:273/203) writes: >JB>>........, the Rainbow Graphics Option, ....................... >JB>Have Rainbow+, do you know where i could get the above board? > In the latest issue of _Rainbow News_, Suitable Solutions was >advertising refurbished ones for $175 I believe. (pick one) A. Send the character whose ASCII value is 27 decimal to the host computer when the "`" key is pressed? B. Act as though you pressed Ctrl-] when the "`" key is pressed? (A) is what I described in the previous message. If you follow the directions I gave, log on to the VAX, and at the $ prompt press "`" TWICE, you should receive the message "Invalid escape sequence". However, I don't know why you'd want to send escape characters to the VAX; the only application that still needs them is TECO. (B) is what SET ESCAPE is for. If you enter: Kermit-MS> SET ESCAPE ? you'll see that the help message requests a control key for Kermit's escape FUNCTION. So Kermit rejects any attempt to put the escape function on a printable key. There doesn't appear to be any way around it. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/1 ------------------------------ Date: 11-16-89 (00:59) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: RE: PC KERMIT 2.32/B From: CARL HOUSEMAN Addendum to previous message - you can put the Kermit escape function on the ` key. However, the escape function must be assigned to some control-key. If you take the default of ctrl-], then Kermit-MS> SET KEY \96 \29 will cause ` to act the same as if you pressed ctrl-], and ctrl-] will continue to work, too. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/1 ------------------------------
