I want to install an 8087 in what I believe is an 8 Mhz Compact computer.
The manuals don't indicate anything about installation of the 8087 on the
motherboard.

Does this require an 8 MHz 8087?  Are there any jumpers or dip switches to
change?

I am assuming the open socket next to the CPU is reserved for the 8087.
