My Mac II is freaking out! Message-ID: <16908@dartvax.Dartmouth.EDU> Date: 14 Nov 89 16:13:08 GMT Sender: news@dartvax.Dartmouth.EDU Reply-To: thomas@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Thomas Summerall) Organization: Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH Lines: 24 My System: Mac II, Apple HD40 internal, 5 megs Apple 8 bit video card, Apple RGB Monitor 68851RC16A PMMU Orchid Macsprint Cache Card -Four megs, the PMMU, and the Macsprint, and the motherboard are recently installed, the problems began since their instal- lation, but not immediately after. The Problem: At random intervals, sometimes within minutes of startup, sometimes after a couple of hours (usually the former) the screen flashes with static. The flashes tend to worsen over time until they are several seconds long. They resemble snow on a tv screen. Only after ten or fifteen of these errors does it cause a system crash. Sometimes these crashes are so hard that the screen remains dark after resetting and I have to manually power down. I have no clue as to where these strobes are coming from. They don't seem to be scrambling the RAM because only the most severe actually cause errors. I don't have an anti static pad so I haven't tried to unplug the MacSprint. I have turned it off with software, and the problems still occur. Same with all inits off. It also happens in any program. HELP! Thanks in advance, Thomas Summerall thomas@eleazar.dartmouth.edu
