I just tried moving HyperCard to my root folder. When I started it up, sure enough it asked me where Home was. There is a string resource inside HyperCard that tells it where to look for the Home stack. If you want to put HyperCard in a different folder than the one your Home stack is in, you have to change this resource. If you're handy with ResEdit all you have to do is change the second string in the "Misc" STR# resource. (The first string is the name of the Home stack, which you can also change.)
