The default MIPS sendmail.cf uses the file as a list of hosts to which it
uses SMTP as a transfer agent.  One of the /usr/adm/periodic/daily scripts
sed's /etc/hosts (which, of course, doesn't work if you use BIND) and
generates /usr/lib/sendmail.smtp.
