If anyone is interested, my new mailer address is below. First Birding impressions of Sacramento... First of all, the area around Sacramento itself is not very birdy. It is pretty flat, all one ecotype, and supports only a limited variety of species. It does have some really good ones though, like the Black-shouldered Kite (gorgeous!!), and the Yellow-billed Magpie (amazing that a crow can look so distinguished). The really neat part of Sacramento though, is that it is so close to everything. I can drive 1 and 1/2 hours to the east, and go thru all of the various life zones in the Sierra Nevada! The birds here are unbeleivable, everything from scrub jays in the lowlands to Clark's Nutcrackers at tree line!! Alternatively, I can drive an hour and a half to the west and be at the coast (haven't done this yet but it is in my near-term plans). The life list is really building quickly now! BTW: I am still looking for birding contacts and groups in the area, so if you know of any, I'd love to hear from you. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greg Pasquariello (916) 920-9092 grp@unify.UUCP Unify Corporation ...!{csusac, pyramid}!unify!grp
