Gee, this sounds like they're going to try the imbedded 2-D grid a la
Connection Machine.  The CM has two modes of communication, hypercube
or grid, but they're both the same system.  Certain efficiencies can
arise from using the grid as opposed to the hypercube, and vice-versa.
