The original version of rpc.lockd which comes will Sun(4) OS 4.0.1 (~64000 bytes) didn't support the DOS 3.1 locking extensions. It returned "garbage args" for lock and share requests. I mentioned this to Sun and Geoff Arnold sent me a version (~139000 bytes) dated August 11,1989 which seems to work correctly. This version works with Sun's PC-NFS and BWNFS. I just received a sniffer trace of a rpc.lockd (~180000 bytes) which a user aquired from Sun last month. This lock daemon seems to work correctly for LOCK, UNLOCK and SHARE, but UNSHARE returns the dreaded "garbage args". According to nlm_lock.x the arguments to SHARE and UNSHARE are identical. Has Sun changed the specification ? Is this new version faulty ? Has anyone had problems with file sharing under PC-NFS 3.x with a lock daemon of the specified size ? Any comments, sugestions welcome. Carl Beame Beame@McMaster.CA
