   Those sound line/probably are prices for bare drives. As such, they're not
outstanding. I've seen better prices in Computer Shopper.  I paid $419 for an
ST157N.  The price for the ST138N is _way_ out of line, though.

 By "bare drive", I mean you'll need to add a power supply and presumably, a
case of some sort.  This will add another $125 or so to the cost. (I used a
power supply from a dead PC clone (Use # 997 for a Dead PC :) and didn't
bother with a case.  You can cut _some_ corners. But watch it!

   I don't know anything of Ehman.  The Seagate ST 1xxN series seems to be
quite decent, and come with a 1 year factory warranty, which Seagate will
honor even if the dealer does not, though it will cost you $35. Peanuts,
relatively speaking.  I've been very pleased with mine. However, I've been a
great deal less pleased with the ST-238R, and the ST-255__ <No letter suffix)
models. Both have gone through periods of nearly nonexistent QA. Neither are
SCSI, but there _are_ adapters for 'em, to the //. Just say no.

  One point of info as a bonus for anyone who cares.  In the drive
designation, the ST-1 indicates that this is a 3.5" frame, while the ST-2
indicates a 5.25" frame.  The trailing letter or absence thereof indicates the
drive class or type, with R being RLL and N being SCSI. Blank indicates an MFM
drive. Alas, advertisers often omit that last letter. Make sure of what you're
buying...
