Today I finished a new version of the pbmtogo (portable bitmap to
GraphOn graphics) routine and sent it off to Jef Poskanzer
(pokey@well.sf.ca.us) for inclusion in his pbmplus bitmap manipulation
package.  This new version of pbmtogo is utilizing the GraphOn 2D
compression scheme so that dumping an X Window, say, to a GraphOn
is now much faster than for the old version I wrote about a year ago.
The 2D-compressed files are sometimes 15 times smaller than a raw
GraphOn format file for the same X Window dump.

The package that Jef has just submitted to the comp.sources.misc moderator
still contains the old pbmtogo (uncompressed mode) routine.  If you are
interested in testing/improving the new pbmtogo, drop me an e-mail at
bt@irfu.se.  So far I have tested it extensively on an HP9000/370 (HP-UX
6.5).
