From a vertical market point of view (petroleum exploration software)
I have observed considerable progress in the adoption of X-Windows over
the past year.  At the 11/88 international convention no vender was
displaying X-Windows applications, although several were interested.
A year later in 11/89 a third of fifty vendors had ported their applications
(mostly to Suns and DECS hanging off of supercomputers) and many of
the remaining intended to do so.
