I read in the O'Reilly Users Manual (Vol 3) that my problem is a corrupted rgb.dir file on /usr/lib/X11 That sounded good, so I copied a know good one from another machine, but I still get the same "cannot allocate colormap" error. Does the file need to be loaded into a database, like you have to do with fonts 'mkfontdir'? thanks, Bob
