Message-ID: <1989Nov21.135935.3591@lth.se> Date: 21 Nov 89 13:59:35 GMT Sender: newsuser@lth.se (LTH network news server) Organization: Computer Science, Lund Institute of Technology, Sweden Lines: 24 bash is not 8-bit transparent! If I am going to start using bash it must support 8-bit character sets. The bash code as well as a lot of other code is full of stupid use of the 8th bit in bytes for quoting and other things. Please start thinking that characters are at least 8-bit long even if you are americans. In bash 1.04 you can bind an input string to a edit function. Can you bind an input string to a string? Also does bash support overwrite mode in editing the input line? I need that too.
