I have been getting the feed for some time now (I will be making it available to the users once I have completed the users guide for our site). DEVSIM (our node) represents the simulations engineering section of DAC. Most of our machines are VMS based (I know of *no* unix based machines, but do know of 3 PCs) and the work is done by engineers who are trying to make the best use of the environment they are in. This heirarchy is directed to our sites needs and the needs of our user community. One item that the prior posting forgot to mention is the fact that this is not a "new" heirarchy, but a seperate network, that happens to be carried (as is BIONET) through the UUCP and along with USENET. I see no reason to start all the flaming wars that would be required to get these newsgroups created in news.groups. alt.aquaria would have seemed like a small battle next to the wars that would be set off by the proposal made to add these VMS oriented groups to the net. By adding a seperate "network" and making its distribution available via the current distribution medium, we allow all those that want vmsnet to have it in a single blow, without having to pick up those other heirarchies that they feel they don't need. Yes, I know that the entire vmsnet could have started out as a subset of comp.os.vms, but I agree with those that have already stated that they don't want the flame wars that such a proposal would create to stop the creation of the new net. As an end user, and not a site administrator, I would like to express my appreciation to those backbone nodes that currently carry the new network, and look forward to more, as we continue to grow, and share our VMS experience. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | J.M.
