I guess you would have to explain to me why you feel that sites should do this. Why not just assume the responsibility of passing the news on and not worry about the content? Read the groups you are interested in and let the rest go through unfiltered. It is interesting to note that this policy might also have prevented the namespace problems, in that all groups would have equal distribution. Maybe, if you establish this as your "official" policy on the handling of news, you could distance yourself, institutionally, from any controversy.
