Message-ID: <5992@lindy.Stanford.EDU> Date: 25 Nov 89 22:09:53 GMT Sender: jon@lindy.Stanford.EDU (Jon Corelis) Reply-To: jon@lindy.stanford.edu (Jon Corelis) Organization: Stanford Data Center Lines: 26 While reading the net I've come across references to mailing lists that seem to be "automatic" -- that is, you can send mail to listname@site and it is forwarded, I assume without the need for specific action by the listkeeper, to all the people on the list. When you receive mail via such a list, all you see in the header is the list name, not all the addresses on the list. If you reply to such a list with the R utility, your reply gets sent to everyone on the list. Have I got the workings of this right? And if I do, can someone tell me how to set up such a list, or point me to the proper documentation? I have documentation that tells me how to set up a simple local mailing list via the alias command, but this doesn't seem to work quite the same way. For one thing, all the addressees appear in the header, which could get awkward if the list is large. Thanks for any information, Jon -- Jon Corelis jon@lindy.stanford.edu Stanford University BITNET: XB.E70@FORSYTHE.STANFORD.EDU
