About once per month a whole bunch of articles go out over that group which contain a wealth of information for the new user which, IMHO, should be required reading for the new user (after all, that's why it's there...). Included in that bunch of articles are a couple relating to mailing lists. Once you've got everything set in your mind as to what you want to do, you'll need the assistance of your SysAdmin in order to set things up properly.
