CNN this week has been running an article about a new system
called BASE (or B.A.S.E. ?) which supposedly makes a two speaker
stereo produce sound from apparently any direction. They say
it processes the audio to produce psycho-acoustic cues for
the desired location. Also, one can process a master with this,
and all recordings will then share the quality. 

Does anyone know:
  How does it work?
  Will it be available to consumers or built into traditional
    gear? [the models they showed were for professional use].
