I assume that the civil war ship was named after the mountain. You assume correctly. I got curious about this myself, so I called up the Naval Institute (which is about 200 yds from here) and asked. The mountain is in Merrimac (!) County in New Hampshire. The info I got from USNI confirms everything else George said.
