P.S. I agree completely with your sentiments, if not your words.
Next thing people will be copyrighting the word "the".

We've already had trademark suits over "the initial letter Z",
and "the trailing portion of a name being Land", not to mention
"the beginning portion of a name relating to a {computer,fast_food} 
product being Mac".

Aaargh!
