That DECNET is slowly on it's way out (it is not even standard in Ultrix I've heard) did not deter anyone. The decision was reversed in the end. It meant: no Suns, Apollos, VAXes running BSD, Macs interconnected and so on. I just strongly object to centralised bureaucracies that think they know better than the user, however knowledgable the user is. I do not object to a local group serving a relatively small user community with a minimum of paperwork. These groups should be as small as possible though. If I can pay for the hardware and can run it myself why should anyone have to interfere with this? If not I should go out looking for cooperation and pay for it.
