I've written a couple of applications which required such a field, and although it's not difficult, error checking is not terribly fun. Such a field may take into account the date as well, to prevent something such as 90-01-04 00:08 - 90-01-03 23:51 from returning a negative value. I recall somewhere in the dbase manual that date's can have fractional part, but again, more work. Just throw this one creature comfort in. Compatibility? No problem.
