What am I doing wrong? It sounds like you may be using a setting that is to high for your DPI's (Dots Per Inch). Try setting it to 150 DPI if your scanner software allows it. The HP LaserJet Plus has a variable setting for DPI. Also be sure you're using the greyscale setting and not one of the dithering alternatives.
