I am having problem compiling the filter utility on our Ultrix machine.
Here is the error message:

$ make
cd src; make - all
cd utils; make - all
cd filter; make - all
cc  -o ../bin/filter actions.o   buffer.o        filter.o        lock.o         parse.o          rules.o                 summarize.o     utils.o                ../src/opt_utils.o 
ld:buffer.o: bad magic number
*** Error code 4
 
Stop.
*** Error code 1

 Elm and other utilities (newalias, printmail ...) were compiled OK.
 I did run the Configure script before I "make" it.
 Does anybody know what went wrong?
 This is Elm 2.2 PL14 running on VAX8550 which runs Ultrix 2.2
