In regard to ACM membership, you said... UB>I am in the process of joining the ACM. I am trying to decide UB>which SIGs to join and would appreciate the help of any members of UB>the follwing SIGs : SIGCHI, SIGCOMM, SIGGRAPH, SIGOPS and SIGPLAN. UB> Thanks I can recommend SIGPLAN if you do any programming. UB> What topics are covered ? Many, many programming languages. Parsing & compiling. Object- oriented programming. Random number generation. Pretty printing. A wide range of topics from popular to esoteric. UB> How theoretical/practical are the articles ? Good mix. The parsing "guys" get pretty technical. But every issue has something I find interesting and understandable. UB> How much reading material do you receive from the group ? Monthly SIGPLAN Notices plus several large supplements each year, like conference proceedings. UB> What alternative resources do you recommend ? Consider SIGSOFT (Software Engineering). Try anything interesting for a year, then drop it if you don't like it. I prefer the ones that publish a regular journal, like SIGPLAN, SIGSOFT. -- bag --- ~ EZ-Reader 1.21 ~ The best multiuser modem poker is TelePoker! Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
