As you might expect from IBM, there are not really any *concise* descriptions of the LU 6.2 protocol. However, I can give you the references which we used to develop an LU 6.2 emulator: (1) Format and Protocol Reference Manual: Architectural Logic for LU Type 6.2, SC30-3269-3, 4th edition, December, 1985. (2) LU 6.2 Reference: Peer Protocols, SC31-6808-0, 1st edition, September, 1988. Depending upon the type of IBM system you wish to emulate and/or communicate with, you can get by implementing the LU 6.2 protocol in either (1) or (2). Older IBM systems that use LU 6.2 (roughly) implement (1) while newer ones implement (2). Examples of older ones are: CICS, S/36, S/38, APPC/PC. Examples of newer ones are: AS/400. I believe the OS/2 EE Comm Manager really implements (1) as does VTAM 3.2. Future versions of OS/2 EE and VTAM will probably migrate toward (2). If you have enough time and lots of patience, you can produce a single emulation that is a union of the capabilities in both (1) and (2). After that, you can either go to work for IBM or join a monastery! -------------- Wayne Clark IBM Connectivity Operations, 3Com Corporation (formerly Communications Solutions, Inc.) phone: 408/562-6967 EMail: Wayne_Clark@SPD.3mail.3Com.COM -or- {nsc, bnrmtv, epimass}!csi!wclark Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
