[ Stuff deleted ] Well, it seems to have bothered Black Belt Systems too. They're coming out with a product called HAM-E. (Hold And Modify Expander). This thing will plug into the back of your Amiga (500/1000/2000) through the RGB port, and then you plug the cable for your monitor into it. With it, they'll have a 262144 color HAM mode with 63 color registers. Their target price is less than $350.
