I bought one, removed the 64K chips, and added three sets of 256K chips for another $75 -- meaning I upgraded from 128K to 896K for a very reasonable $150 (the chips were from Microprocessors Unltd in Oklahoma; 918-267-4961). Sorry about the plug for DEC -- just trying to help the huddled masses. By the way, the installation is simple -- takes just a couple of minutes. --- * Origin: The Rising MoonStar (Opus 1:142/723) ------------------------------ Date: 11-28-89 To: MARK BORNSTEIN Subject: NOT ENOUGH From: JIM GREELY In a message of <20 Nov 89 10:37:26>, Mark Bornstein (1:101/111) writes: MB> Ah, you are correct. But, MB>moving along now with the tenor of your last sentence above, you MB>forgot to compare Jim's $425 price for a Rainbow with said Newman's. Yea, I have several graphics boards for $65. I also have all kinds of memory boards, hard-drive controllers, keyboards, monitors and lots of other rainbow hardware. I now have 3 systems for sale at $425. This includes 640k memory, 10mb hard-drive & controller, keyboard, and monitor (Amber or White). 20mb drives are available for $175 more. If anyone is interested I will beat any price from Newman, Midwest or any of the other 'DEC dealers'. I wish I could remember where I originally got it. It should be available on either of the above BBSs as RBGIF.ARC or RBGIF.ZIP -- one of those two compression methods. ++ Amer ++ --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 11-27-89 (21:47) To: AMER NELSON Subject: DBUG From: DAVID HEID Amer, I seemed to have crossed up in getting to your house last thursday to pick up the stuff for the meeting. I found that by setting up a 360K RAM disk using the RDISK utility that the program would run. I assume that MDRIVE would have worked as well. I am still a bit underwhelmed by the demos -- WAYOUT and HOUSE. Everything I get is in shades of red. Some are so faint they practically blend into the black background.
