  Peter (and others :-)) in future (while in "vi" after accidently
pressing "w" (or similar)) do:

:shell		(or similar. Gives you a shell)
$ kill <pid_of_"vi">
$ exit		(You drop back were you were before you pressed "w")
No harm done.
