At our plant we use a wide range of PC's with an even wider range of software and operating systems. The problem we are having is that Procomm Plus will abort while loading with the message "Error: cannot load .DIR file". A call to Datastorm said that this was caused by the system running out of environment space. On some PCs this was true and easily fixed with the shell command in config.sys with the "/e" switch. On others it has been a little tougher. Case 1: Autoexec.bat loads network drivers by calling a batch file with: command.com /c loadnet.bat Loadnet.bat contains several network drivers and netbios emulators. Procomm Plus is not in the autoexec.bat file. It is executed later by the user. With these PCs, the "cannot load .DIR file" is displayed. If the network commands in the loadnet.bat file are copied into autoexec.bat Procomm Plus does not have any problems. Case 2: Autoexec.bat loads a memory resident program and then later in the batch file, creates an environment variable like "set temp=c:\temp". Again Procomm Plus aborts with the ".DIR" message. If the environment variables are set before the memroy resident program, there are no error messages. Any ideas on what is happening here? Thanks in advance. -- Mark Regester Information Systems & Services, NCR Peripheral Products Division NCR:654-8340 (316)636-8340 <{ece-csc,hubcap,gould,rtech}!ncrcae!ncrwic!m.regester> FAX:636-8889 <{sdcsvax,cbatt,dcdwest,nosc.ARPA,ihnp4}!ncr-sd!ncrwic!m.regester>
