I don't remember the details now, but you may find a copy of a program I wrote in 84 to do this. It was called hdformat and was posted on a bunch of BBS systems. I'm not sure I have a copy any more, and I'm sure I don't have one online, since the only DOS I run these days is under UNIX. You might be able to find a copy around somewhere. This asks for format and stuff.
