For example, having to use the singlespace environment in quotations is not good. The LaTeX file should have as little visual markup as possible. For example, the center, flushleft, and flushright environments as well as all the size-changing commands should be used seldomly if at all. I am working on a "paper" document style which will produce a properly formatted undergraduate paper (a variant, for the most part of the article style). This will be released early next year when I've had the opportunity to test everything in it.
