The line to which you refer in my win.ini read: windowmemsize = 640 This value allows Windows to use all the main memory that is left after loading drivers including ipx. Your value of 450 limits Windows to 450K. Windows/386 is very memory sensitive, and too little, I've found, results in all sorts of unexpected behaviour, inluding crashing in the logo.
