I used to have the same problem, but if I remember correctly it went away by defining HAVE_PTYS and FIRST_PTY_LETTER in src/s-xenix.h (they are commented out by default). If anyone can determine authoritatively whether Xenix has PTYs, or which versions of it have them, I would like to know. Then I can provide appropriate s- files.
