The shell rests primarily on the "inductive" method -- using examples to generate production rules -- although it also allows the construction of rules directly (without going through the induction process). One of its major benefits is that it can produce C code which can be embedded in other programs. Earlier versions of the lst Class product provided a better interface to the "inductive" approach than the interface provided by Rulemaster. However, 1st Class now costs a lot more than Rulemaster.
