I am pleased to report that I was, indeed, mistaken.  I have ordered
directory lists and files from listserv@vm1.nodak.edu and actually
received them.

Keith, thank you.  I had read several of your articles about the
servers without realizing that you were really talking to me, but I
finally tried it, and it works.
