Message-ID: <1989Dec13.234439.5617@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU> Date: 13 Dec 89 23:44:39 GMT Reply-To: rnicovic@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU (Ralph Nicovich) Organization: Cal Poly State University -- San Luis Obispo Lines: 23 I have a user with an AT&T 6386 WGS. This is a 16Mhz 386 machine running DOS. I need to connect it to my campus wide network, which is Ethernet and uses (mostly) TCP/IP. The problem is the normal cards we use are made by UB but I can't get them to work in this machine, probably because of buss speed. If anyone knows how to make a UB card work in this machine it would be my prefered solution, but at thispoint I would use anything. I called the AT&T technical hot line and was then in a marithon of being given new numbers, and explaining the problem over and over. 8 phone calls and 10 people later, and I am not sure AT&T knows what an ETHERNET is. (of course AT&T does but the people on these hot lines have not a clue). For this aplication the user will log into a SUN with telenet and run an aplication called ARCHINFO. I must be able to suport a techtronic terminal emulator and XWINDOWS would be nice. Any Ideas/experiances would be apreciated, both hardware and software. I must connect to a tranceiver (AUI) port on my network. If I must I will consider using twisted pair (starlan) and connect it to Ethernet, but I am price sensitive on this installation.
